It is rare to see a child actor that, in such a difficult role, manages to perform well. But Jacob Tremblay does just that, with top-notch performance from him and Larson that ultimately shows audiences stress and anxiety vividly throughout the movie. In each of the scenes, the realistic feeling they pass to audiences of difficulties that they go through has no silver coating and is harsh and to the point. Brie Larson deservedly takes the Oscar for her role, and we see an actress that quickly has established herself as a new and exciting star in a very competitive market. Ultimately, Lenny Abrahamson directs scenes that make actors transmit emotions in a visceral and soulful way.
