The Danish Girl

the_danish_girl_28film29_posterA theme that has been rarely touched on films, citing the transgender movement’s first roots and foray into unknown territory, it makes viewers feel uncomfortable as they are put inside a man’s struggle with his own sexuality, transforming himself into what he (she) had always been. On a performance level both Redmayne, who literally becomes a woman, and the up and coming Alicia Vikander (representing the hardships not only for the individual in question, but for all those around him) are masterful.  The only downside to the movie: the final stretch feels stagnant, with the main plot point of the movie already stated, it sometimes can’t figure out its own pace.
